Interior Design Trends to Refresh Your Home in 2024

The month of January tends to be filled with typical new year activities—decluttering, organizing, and tackling those long-put-off projects were probably some of the top-priority things you checked off your list this month. But now that we’ve settled into 2024 and you have a fresh slate to work with at home, you might be looking to take those home projects up a notch and actually refresh your space with some exciting new interior design trends.

While we’re definitely not saying you need to redo your entire home to keep up with trends—and there are definitely some home decor staples that aren’t going anywhere—we know that it can be tough to keep up with what’s “in” and figure out a place to start in decorating if that is something you’re interested in. This is why we studied trend reports and design expert opinions to compile this list of five of the top new interior design trends for 2024. From embracing kitschiness to dark and moody vibes, you can choose which of these trending interior design concepts you want to incorporate into your home this year.

Interior Design Trends That We’ll Be Seeing Everywhere in 2024

Romantic Design

We saw a feminine aesthetic—embracing bows and frills—become popular last year, but in 2024, we’ll see this idea extend beyond fashion and into our homes. According to Architectural Digest, “Romantic design is more than the clichéd embodiment of Valentine’s Day aesthetics. When embraced with confidence, pinks, reds, florals, lace, and ribbons can be sensual and provocative.” This moody style involves lots of gorgeous texture and pieces reminiscent of old world romance.

Kitschy and Eclectic

While thrifting and vintage pieces have become much more mainstream in recent years (and thank goodness for that!), we’re taking it even further in 2024 and really leaning into kitschiness and all things eclectic. The Pinterest Predicts 2024 trend report foresees that we’ll especially see this in the kitchen, coining the term “Kitschens.” If you’re not ready to go all in on this trend, you could start with a few fun and colorful pieces to mix up your space.

Shades of Orange and Brown

With Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2024 being Peach Fuzz, this one shouldn’t come as a surprise. Beautiful, rich tones of orange, peach, and terracotta can be incorporated into your home for a fresh and welcoming feel. Fashion colors will become home colors, according to Vogue, so, “Brown is about to have the most major moment. Fashion has already embraced it, and now we will see it in interiors from lacquered walls to velvet drapery to heavy textured linen sofas.” Elle Decor surveyed a roster of designers and industry experts, who also predict that a ’70s-era, earthy color palette of brown and terracotta will reign supreme this year.

Moody Western Meets Vintage Americana

Gone are the days of light and airy neutrals. In 2024, we’re embracing dark, rich, and moody colors and textures in the home. One of Pinterest Predicts‘ trends for the year is “Western Gothic,” a style that embraces a Vintage Americana feel and adds a touch of Western flair. We can’t help but think this trend would be absolutely perfect for a baby boy’s nursery.

Playing with Metals and Textures

From updated takes on bouclé to plaster walls to rich velvets, 2024 will be all about the texture—and more specifically, a mixture of it. Instead of sticking to coordinating wood pieces or matching throw pillows, mix things up by leaning in to all things mismatched. Pinterest Predicts also anticipates “Hot Metals,” such as stand-out chrome and cool silver tones, trending for 2024. If you already have gold or brass in most of your home, don’t fret: this year is all about mixing and matching.
